Marcus, you have been such a joy to watch from our stands over these last three years! Thank you for your example to all of us-- service instead of self. We suffered with you during your first injury and rehab and have been thankful to watch you play again this year. This makes your new injury all the more hurtful to everyone—it was heart breaking for all Gamecock fans. There were not many dry eyes in the stadium as you were taken away Saturday. We don’t pretend to understand why this happened again, but the Lord is good and has a plan for your life. Cl...Marty,what an outstanding and touching tribute! Clebe McClary was a Viet Nam vet who returned to the USA and his family with missing limbs and a multitude of other injuries. His men gave him a momento with the following engraved on it, " In this world of give and take, there are few men willing to give what it truly takes". Being an ex-coach I used to relate this to my players. I associated it with the effort, dedication, persistence amd hard work associated with sports and being the very best you can be. With age I have come to realize that this statement was really meant for a person's walk through life....how he acts, how he treats others, how he gives to those in need, how he leads, how he sets the correct example, how he cares, and how he is obedient to living a Godly life.....I don't know Marcus Lattimore but from the first time I saw him score a touchdown and politely and with class toss the ball back to the referee without bring any personal recognition to himself, I knew he was a special young man. Marcus walks the walk and he truly is one "who gives what it truly takes". I,too, shed a tear whenever Marcus became injured again and I pray that God will again give him the will, the strength and the ability to play again. If anyone can, it will be him; but if not, I am confident that his strong faith will lead him to another path of excellence where others will want to follow.waynenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1094716891402092795.post-72193060845973962072012-10-29T21:47:44.706-04:002012-10-29T21:47:44.706-04:00Wow what a awesome article Marty got me emotional ...Wow what a awesome article Marty got me emotional all over again. To have someone come to play for the Gamecocks and show the love of Christ and stand with his fellow teammates when they mess up and do runs or what ever with them. Now that is being a Leader and someone showing what team really means. It shows how much of a wonderful person you are inside. My son plays football and when he watches Marcus he tells me "Mom I want to play for Carolina and do just as good as Marcus does for the Gamecocks". Marcus, my son admires you greatly and I seen in his eyes when you were injured that hurt him big time. I just hope my son grows to be the man God calls him to be as God has called you to be. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and know he is there, even if you don't feel like he is, remember that poem "Footprints In The Sand". I was heart-sick like everyone around us. Tears, supportive comments and prayers were spontaneously offered for Marcus who is a one of a kind player.

Marcus doesn’t showboat when he scores, he never does “stupidness” and always does things for the right reasons. That’s what makes him stand out above the rest. He comes from a wonderful and loving family right here in the upstate. He is a great leader and role model throughout the state and is respected by teammates, Gamecock fans and opposing teams alike. We need more dedicated, solid and ethically guided players like Marcus Lattimore. I am so very proud of Marcus and will be there for him as he has been for all of us.

God has a plan for all of us and He has one for Marcus. We don’t understand it. Why Marcus and why now, on the heels of recovery from last season’s injury? Not to worry… the long range plan for Marcus is greater than what we can now see or imagine!!!! Marcus will persevere. He has made great choices and will continue down that path of greatness. I will keep Marcus close to my heart as he will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Character, courage, bravery, powerful work ethic.. characteristics found in so few these days. I thank God for you and your willingness to be a positive role model for my 13 year old son. I have shed so many tears for you these past two days. I haven't cried since 2007 when I lost my Mom. I think of JOB in the bible and all the Lord let him go through just to prove to satan that he would remain faithful. I questioned God immediately after your second injury... Lord why him? I believe that this question was answered as I watched the nationwide outpouring of love for you. You have more of an opportunity to be a witness in this instance than if you scored 100 more touchdowns or set the NCAA rushing record. I believe there are wonderful things ahead of you... Not because of football or winning/losing games, but because the heart of such a fine young man has been wounded. God is still in control. He is not shocked or surprised. Nor is He finished with you yet. He did not bring you this far to let go of your hand. I am praying for a complete and miraculous healing. If God intends for you to play football next year or at the Pro level it will come to pass. You are truly gifted and I hope to see the beautiful site of you running the ball again, but I know God has more in store for you than carrying a ball. The ball is just the tool. There is no doubt you will be able to do anything you set your mind to do. I'd like to also say thank you to the Tennessee Vols team for their show of respect and true sportsmanship they showed at the time of you injury. I was at the game with my 6 year old son and couldn't have taught him a better life lesson about the meaning of sports and that its just a game.
